Message from RNC Chair Michael Steele re: Scott Brown's U.S. Senate Win

"Last night, Scott Brown made history by defeating Martha Coakley in Massachusetts, the Democrat Party’s most secure political stronghold. I extend my sincere congratulations to Scott, his family, and his team on their tremendous come-from-behind victory. Scott is set to become the first Republican U.S. Senator from Massachusetts in more than 30 years, and everyone involved should be proud. That includes you, the grassroots. Your devotion to the belief that government should empower not itself, but the people— individuals, families and small businesses—helped put Scott over the top.

The Obama Administration and Congressional Democrats have clearly overreached with their uncompromising reliance on government to solve our nation’s problems. They’ve enacted a number of left-wing policies, but have nothing to show for them except massive debt and staggering unemployment. In a clear rejection of their agenda, the people of Massachusetts have sent Washington a clear message— we’ve had enough. Enough with spending money we don’t have. Enough with a government that lives beyond its means. Enough with politicians that subvert the individual’s capacity to grow and create self worth by assuming government is the only solution to our nation’s economic woes. And most of all, enough with trying to force yet another government takeover – health care “reform”— at a time when we must focus on job creation on the economy. ENOUGH!

As President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid have dragged their party further to the left by pushing their government-knows-best policies, Americans have realized that the “change we can believe in” has become change they didn’t want. Last night Republican Scott Brown won big in the bluest of states. His victory is a clear referendum on the failed agenda now being pursued in Washington, D.C. A message has been sent, and it was you—the grassroots—who sent that message.

But will the Democrats in Washington, D.C. listen? Will they drop their grow-government-at-any-cost policies and focus on the economy and jobs? Only time will tell."
